Yoko Ono was born on 18th February 1933 in Japan. She has a younger brother. She studied at the Gakushin elite school in Japan. Her family suffered due to the aftermath of the World War II. The once well-to-do children were forced to beg for food and Yoko Ono developed an aggressive attitude. After the World War, her family moved to United States and she joined Sarah Lawrence College. She developed an interest in arts even though her family didn’t like it.

Yoko Ono eloped to Japan to marry Toshi Ichiyanagi, a music composer in 1956. Later they divorced in 1962. She returned to USA again to marry Anthony Cox, art promoter, film producer and jazz musician. They had a daughter together and Yoko Ono pursued her artistic desires while Cox raised the child. When the couple divorced in 1969, Cox took the daughter away citing Yoko Ono’s drug abuse problem. She wasn’t able to find her child until several years later. John Lennon and Yoko Ono met during one of her art exhibitions and became a couple. In 1969, Yoko Ono married John Lennon.
When Lennon was still part of the Beatles, he recorded many albums working with Yoko Ono. After the success of The Ballad of John and Yoko, they wanted to create their own band, Plastic Ono. Yoko Ono also released her solo album. She preferred using harsh and raw vocals to resemble the sounds of nature. She made several references to her daughter Kyoko whom she missed.
When Beatles disbanded in 1970, Lennon moved with Yoko Ono to Manhattan. When Yoko Ono and Lennon were separated, he had an affair with his assistant May Pang. However, he reconciled with his wife and agreed to continue the affair as well. Yoko Ono and Lennon have a son.
Yoko Ono witnessed the murder of John Lennon at close range and went into seclusion. She still resides in the Dakota Apartments where he was killed. She joined with Jeff Pollack to broadcast Image in honor of Lennon’s 50th birthday.
