Sherri Evonne Shepherd was born on April 22, 1967, in Chicago, Illinois, to Laverne and Lawrence A. Shepherd, a church deacon. She is the oldest of three children. Shepherd’s parents divorced when she was in high school and afterwards, her mother moved the family to California.
