He was named by his mom, Ernestine “Toni” Charles, a Louisiana local; the “Ru” originated from roux, which is the term for the base of gumbo and other creole stews and soups. When his parents separated in 1967, he and his three sisters lived with their mother.
When he was 15 years old, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with his sister Renetta to consider performing expressions. In the following years, he battled as an artist and movie producer amid the 1980s.
He took part in the underground silver screen, making the low-spending film “Star Booty”, and a collection by a similar name.
