Rasheed Abdul “Sheed” Wallace was born on September 17, 1974, in Philadelphia. He was raised in the inner city neighborhoods where he attended Simon Gratz High School. Wallace began playing basketball in high school and was named USA Today High School Player of the Year. In high school he averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds, and seven blocks per game. After high school, Wallace attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, he dominated the court from 1993-1995. During his sophomore year in college, he was second-team All-American. He and fellow player, Jerry Stackhouse led the college team to NCAA Final Four in 1995. Later that year, he left college for the NBA draft.

Career

Once Rasheed Wallace entered the NBA, his contributions on the Washington Bullets were great. After his first season, he was named All-Rookie and was further recognized for playing 51 games for an injured player that year. His contributions also led him to be picked for the All-Star Weekend team. During his rookie year, he scored 655 points. However, even with him doing well on the Washington Bullets, now called the Washington Wizards, he was still traded to the Portland Trail Blazers after one season. After being traded to the Trail Blazers, he averaged 19.4 points per game. However, during his time with the Trail Blazers, he experienced a lot of problems. Some which include, the fracturing of his thumb and him receiving many technical fouls. He had even broken his record for the maximum number of technical fouls called on him. He was even suspended from the NBA for threatening his a referee in 2003. He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks where he played one game and then traded to the Detroit Pistons and helped lead them to the NBA championship in 2004. In 2006 and 2008 he was named All-Star and the next year he was a free agent, signing to the Boston Celtics. However, he suffered career average lows in points per game as well as rebounds per game. With his struggles to give a successful performance in the basketball games, Wallace’s agent, Bill Strickland announced on June 25, 2010. His retirement was made official on August 10. On October 3, 2012, Wallace came out of retirement and signed with the New York Knicks. However, after breaking his foot, in 2013, he was only off of the bench for three minutes after missing eight games. He later announced his second retirement on April 17, 2013. In July 2013, Wallace went on to the Detroit Pistons to be an assistant coach, after signing a two year contract. However, he worked as an assistant coach for the 2013-2014 season and was not rehired to work again the next season.
