Powerball Numbers Tonight: Results for May 10, 2025 Drawing
Lottery players across the nation eagerly awaited the Saturday night Powerball drawing, with an estimated jackpot of $82 million at stake and a cash value option of approximately $37.7 million for the May 10 drawing.
The multi-state lottery game, played across 45 states plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, continues to attract millions of players hoping to become America’s next multi-millionaire with just a $2 ticket investment.

Drawing Results and Prize Information
Saturday’s drawing took place at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time, with ticket sales closing approximately one hour before the drawing in most jurisdictions. According to the official Powerball website, players had nine potential ways to win prizes, ranging from $4 for matching just the Powerball number to the grand prize for matching all five white balls plus the Powerball.
Players who added the Power Play option for an extra $1 per play had the opportunity to multiply their non-jackpot winnings. The Power Play multiplier, selected before the main drawing, can increase prizes by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or even 10X when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.
For those who matched five white balls but missed the Powerball, the Power Play option automatically increases the standard $1 million prize to $2 million, regardless of which multiplier is drawn.
Recent Powerball Activity
Powerball has been particularly active in several states recently, with multiple significant winners reported. In Wisconsin, lottery officials noted that “to say Powerball is on a roll in Wisconsin is an understatement this week,” as the state has seen eight winning Powerball tickets of $50,000 or more drawn in 2025, including three in the month of May alone.
The last major Powerball jackpot winner came in late March 2025, when a ticket purchased in Denison, Texas matched all numbers in the drawing. Since then, the jackpot has been steadily climbing with each roll-over drawing.
Additional excitement around the game includes the 2025 NASCAR Powerball promotion that began in April, giving players a chance to win a race weekend getaway and up to $1 million when entering eligible tickets.
How Powerball Works
Powerball draws operate on a two-drum system, with five white balls drawn from a drum containing 69 balls, and one red Powerball selected from a separate drum with 26 balls. To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn.
The game underwent a significant change in August 2021, when it expanded from two weekly drawings to three, now occurring on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings. This change was implemented to generate larger jackpots and increase the number of winners across all prize levels.
Another recent addition to the game is the Double Play feature available in some jurisdictions for an additional $1 per play, offering a separate drawing with a top prize of $10 million. The Double Play drawing uses the same numbers selected for the main Powerball drawing.
State-Specific Prize Information
While Powerball is a multi-state game with standardized rules, some aspects of prize payment vary by state. In California, for example, all prize amounts except the jackpot are pari-mutuel, meaning they vary based on ticket sales and the number of winners at each prize level, rather than being fixed amounts as in other states.
Additionally, prize claim procedures and tax withholding rates differ from state to state. Most jurisdictions require prizes above a certain threshold to be claimed at lottery headquarters rather than at retailers, and winning tickets must be claimed in the state where they were purchased, regardless of the winner’s residence.
“Any winning tickets bought in Virginia must be redeemed in Virginia,” notes the Virginia Lottery, echoing a policy common across all participating states.
Jackpot Payment Options
Powerball jackpot winners face a significant financial decision: whether to take the full advertised jackpot amount in 30 annual graduated payments (the annuity option) or receive a one-time lump sum payment of reduced value (the cash option).
The annual payments increase by 5% each year to account for inflation, with the first payment made upon prize claim and the remaining 29 payments distributed annually. The cash option, which is currently estimated at $37.7 million for the May 10 drawing, represents the amount of money required to be invested today to yield the full jackpot amount over 30 years.
Most winners choose the cash option despite its lower overall value, preferring immediate access to funds rather than extended payments over three decades. In many states, winners have 60 days after ticket validation to make this irrevocable decision.
Educational and Public Benefit
Beyond creating individual winners, Powerball generates significant revenue for public programs in participating states. Each jurisdiction directs its lottery proceeds differently, with common beneficiaries including education, senior citizen programs, environmental protection, and state general funds.
The Florida Lottery, for example, has directed more than $19.80 billion from scratch-off games (which comprise approximately 74% of ticket sales) to the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund since inception.
