Natalie Cole was born and brought up in Los Angeles Georgia in the year 1950 on February 6. In her family, she had his father crooner Nat King Cole and mother Maria Hawkins Ellington who was a former Duke Ellington Orchestra singer Natalie always used to refer her family as “the black Kennedys” and had an exposure to many great singers of soul, jazz, and blues. When she was just six years old she sang in her father’s album and by the age of 11 she had started performing. Natalie had a big family which comprised of her older adopted sister Carole, adopted brother Kelly and two younger sisters named Timolin and Casey who were born in 1961.
Cole came from a family with a musical background. Her uncle was a singer and pianist and worked on a number of albums for which he received many awards as well.
She did her schooling from Northfield School for Girls which was an elite New England preparatory school. Her father expired in the month of February in 1965 and soon she started having a difficult relationship with her mother. She enrolled in the University of Massachusetts Amherst and was transferred to the University of Southern California for a brief period of time where she pledged the Upsilon chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. After getting transferred back she majored in Child Psychology and minored in German. She earned her graduation in the year 1972.
She was married thrice. First in the year 1976 on July 30 to Marvin Yancy who was a songwriter, producer and also the former member of R&B group The Independents. The couple had a son Robert Adam Yancy who was also a musician and went on tours with her. The relationship ended in 1980 when they got divorced. Marvin died of a heart attack in 1985 at the age of 34. Then in 1989, Natalie married former drummer and record producer Andre Fischer but this relationship also didn’t go well and they got divorced in 2001. Natalie married a third time to Kenneth Dupree and divorced in 2004. Her son died of heart attack just at the age of 39.
