Jonathan Smith was born on January 17, 1971, to Carrie Smith-Williams, in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended Frederick Douglass High School. In 2000, Lil Jon started his own record label, called, BME Recordings, signing with Norcross, a Georgia – based southern music distribution company. In 2001, Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz signed a deal with TVT Records, and later released the single “Bia Bia,” that peaked at number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 47 on the Billboard R&B Chart. The next year, the group released their album, Kings of Crunk, which peaked at number 50 on the R&B Chart. The first single off of this album, “Get Low,” was a huge success, with it reaching number 10 on the Hot 100 Chart. In 2004, they released their fifth studio album, Crunk Juice, which featured the single, “What U Gon’ Do, was a success as well. The single peaked at number 22 on the Hot 100 Chart as well as number 13 on the R&B Chart and number 5 on the Rap Chart. Between 2003 and 2005, he produced several songs, like “Salt Shaker,” by Ying Yang Twins, “Yeah, “ by Usher, and “Freak-a-Leak,” Petey Pablo. More recently, Jon collaborated with DJ Snake and released the single, “Turn Down for What,” and he also collaborated with Tyga for the release of the single, “Bend Ova,” which peaked at Number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100.
