His mother was a waitress at “Jack and Phil’s Bar-B-Que” – a retail store associate. She also took in the laundry in order to support her family. Goodman attended Affton High School where he experimented in theatre and used to play football. In 1970, he completed his graduation from that school. He achieved a football scholarship straight to the “Missouri State University” in Springfield, Missouri. He studied there with upcoming Hollywood starts such as Tess Harper and Kathleen Turner. In 1975, Goodman has achieved a “Bachelor of Fine Arts” degree.
