Justin James Watt, also known as J.J. Watt, was born on March 22, 1989, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to Connie, a building operations vice-president and John Watt, a firefighter. J.J. Watt has two younger brothers in the NFL as well, Derek Watt, who plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, and T.J. Watt, who plays linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. While growing up, J.J. Watt was active in sports, with him playing hockey from the age of four until 13. He even played for several teams that traveled to Canada and Germany. However, Watt gave up playing hockey, once his weekly schedule was conflicted. He also played football throughout his childhood and he fell in love with the sport in the fifth grade. J.J. Watt attended Pewaukee High School, where he became a four-year letter winner in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. In his senior year, he was selected for the first-team All-State. He played 14 games and compiled 77 receiving yards and 8 receptions and after being asked to play offensive tackle, he decided to forgo his starting spot and scholarship, to walk on at the University of Wisconsin, where he played defensive end. However, the next week, in a game against the New England Patriots, and Watt recorded two assisted tackles. After the game he was put on injured reserve and underwent surgery the next day. J.J. Watt returned from his injury for the 2017 season and played against Jacksonville Jaguars. In week 5, while playing against the Kansas City Chiefs, he left the game with an injured game. He underwent surgery the next day and was ruled out the rest of the season.
