George Jacob Jung also known as Boston George or El Americano, was born on August 6, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Frederick and Ermine Jung. George Jung was raised in Weymouth, Massachusetts, where he attended Weymouth High School. However, Jung did not excel academically, but he did play football. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and studied advertising, but never finished college.
George Jung started to recreationally smoke weed, but sold a portion of everything that he bought to break even. However, once he came across a childhood friend, in 1967, he realized that there was a huge market in smuggling marijuana from California back to New England. He had originally had his stewardess girlfriend transport the drugs in her suitcases on flights, but he wanted to expand into a bigger market. He started flying to Puerta, Vallarta, Mexico in planes stolen by the airports on Cape Cod with professional pilots. At the height of his operation, Jung was making $250 thousand a month, but it all ended when he was arrested in Chicago for smuggling 660 pounds of marijuana. His connection was arrested for smuggling heroin and gave up Jung for a reduced sentence . Once, he was sentenced, he argued that he was only bringing plants across an imaginary line, and therefore was sent to Federal Correctional Institution, Danbury. While in prison for his trafficking sentence, he met Carlos Lehder Rivas, in 1974, who introduced Jung to the international drug trafficking Medellin Cartel. Lehder taught Jung about smuggling and in 1975, when Jung was released, they went into business together. They planned to transport hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Pablo Escobar’s Colombian to the U.S., but Jung would only be the middleman. However, Lehder later cut Jung out a deal, by going straight to Jung’s California connection, Richard Barile. In 1987, George Jung was arrested again at his mansion in Nauset Beach, near Eastham, Massachusetts. With his family tow, he skipped bail and was involved in another deal with an acquaintance who betrayed him. After being released and working clean and legal jobs, Jung started working in the drug industry again in 1994 after reconnecting with his Mexican marijuana smuggling partner. He was arrested with 1,754 pounds of cocaine in Topeka, Kansas. After pleading guilty to three counts of conspiracy, he was sentenced to a 60 year sentence and was incarcerated in Otisville Federal Prison, in Mount Hope, New York. He was then transferred to Federal Correctional Institution, La Tuna, in Anthony, Texas. More recently, Jung was released from the halfway house on November 27, 2014, but was arrested again on December 6, 2016 for a parole violation. He was released from the halfway house again on July 3, 2017.
