Nobody at his school even knew that he sang and so, his performance of ‘Till I Waltz Again With You’ made him quite popular. His songs with RCA and Sun Records gained popularity and he appeared on Stage Show of CBS.
Elvis Presley was interested in acting and he entered into a seven-year contract with Paramount Pictures. His shows left the audience screaming for more. Many conservative musicians were repelled by Elvis’ energy and body movements on stage. He appeared in Steve Allen show. Later, his single pairing ‘Hound Dog’ and ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ was at the top charts for 11 weeks that remained a record for 36 years. He became a national celebrity after his appearance on Ed Sullivan Show.
The first motion picture of Elvis Presley is ‘Love Me Tender’ which was a great hit. Soon, his songs have been in the top 100 much longer than any other artists. He became busy with acting, recording and performing shows. Elvis’ Christian Album became the best selling Christian Album ever in the USA.
In 1958, he was drafted into the US Army. Elvis had always been close to his mother and her sudden death shattered him. He was honorably discharged in 1960 after which he focused on acting in films. His album ‘Elvis is back’ smashed records. In the 1960s, he made 27 movies.
In 1967, he married Priscilla Beaulieu and they had a child, Lisa Marie. After struggling to regain his musical career, Presley made a hit with this Comeback Special in 1968. He staged more shows in the upcoming years while he divorced his wife in 1973.
Elvis Presley was strongly against drugs, but he was addicted to prescription drugs and died in 1977. His posthumous singles continued to become top ten hits.
