Banks got married to Max Handelman in 2003. They first met on the first day of her college on 6th September, 1992. Max is a producer and sportswriter from Portland. They have two sons out of which the one was through surrogate in 2011. Their second son was also from surrogate who was born in 2012. His name is Magnus Mitchell.
