Donovan Jamal McNabb was born on November 25, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois, to mother Wilma McNabb, a nurse, and Sam McNabb, an electrical engineer. Donovan McNabb, has a older brother, named, Sean. McNabb attended, Mount Carmel High School, where he played football, with future NFL players, Simeon Rice and Matt Cushing. Together, they led Mount Carmel to a State Championship over Wheaton Central High School, in 1991. McNabb scored the final touchdown in the game during this faceoff. In his senior year, he led the team to a Chicago Prep Bowl championship. During McNabb’s years in high school, he also excelled in track and field as well as basketball. After high school, he attended the Syracuse University, on a football scholarship. He chose this college, not just for football, but also because of their broadcasting journalism program. However, after he redshirted his first year, in 1994, he went on to start in every game during his college career, with a 35-14 record. He completed the longest touchdown pass in Syracuse’s history, when he was a freshman. He threw 96 yards and had a 354 total yard of offense, against West Virginia University. At the end of the season, he was named Big East Conference’s rookie of the year. In his junior year, he had amassed 2,892 yards of total offense and in his senior year he led Syracuse to a berth in the Orange Bowl against Florida. By the time his college career in football was done, McNabb had ranked sixth in the nation with a 158.9 passing efficiency and ranked 22nd in total offense. Donovan McNabb was named the Big East’s offensive player of the decade for the 1990’s. He was also named to the Syracuse All-Century football team.
Donovan McNabb continued his career in football professionally after college. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he made six starts for 948 yards in 12 games.
