From a very young age, Donnie Yen was inspired by martial arts. He started Kung Fu training at the tender age of 9. Since 14 years old, he was practicing Wushu. His interest in martial arts made him quit school. As he spent more time in Combat Zone of Boston, his parents sent him to train with Beijing Wushu Team for 2 years. He started taekwondo training at 16 years of age. His mother was a soprano and his father a violinist. They made sure that Donnie Yen learned piano along with break dancing and hip-hop dancing.
In 1984, Donnie Yen starred in Drunken Tai Chi film. After Tiger Cage, he gained fame through Once Upon a Time in China. Iron Monkey and Hero are his other popular movies.
