Crockett: Dem Donors Back “Safest White Boy” for 2028
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) revealed that Democratic donors are already lining up behind a specific male candidate for the 2028 presidential election, citing concerns about the party’s recent losses with female nominees.
During a SiriusXM Urban View town hall with DNC Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta, Crockett claimed big donors are seeking “the safest white boy” possible as their next standard-bearer, according to Mediaite.

Fear Driving Donor Decisions
“It is this fear that the people within the party, within the primary system, will have about voting for a woman because every time we voted for a woman, we’ve lost,” Crockett explained during the discussion, referencing the party’s defeats with Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Kamala Harris in 2024.
The Texas lawmaker indicated that influential donors have already coalesced around one particular candidate, though she stopped short of naming the individual. “I had a donor on the phone with me telling me that all the donors are lining up behind that candidate,” she said according to HuffPost.
Specific Candidate Not Named
While Crockett didn’t identify the candidate, she was unequivocal about certain characteristics: “I can tell you — and I tell you — it’s not a black person nor a woman, ok?” Several prominent white male Democrats are considered potential 2028 contenders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The comments came during a broader discussion about the Democratic Party’s future hosted by SiriusXM’s Clay Cane and Reecie Colbert. The full conversation is set to air on May 15th, according to The Wrap.
Trump’s Future Presidential Ambitions
During the same conversation, Crockett addressed speculation about former President Donald Trump potentially seeking a third term, which would require a constitutional amendment. “I know he thinks he’s running again, but that ain’t happening,” she stated confidently.
“I don’t care what all is going on in this country and I don’t care how many things we won’t say we are absolutely going to do, I am telling y’all with all confidence he is not running for a third term,” she added.

Reactions and Implications
Crockett’s comments highlight ongoing tensions within the Democratic Party regarding candidate selection strategy and concerns about electability. The party faces internal debate between those advocating for potentially safer, more traditional candidates versus those pushing for greater diversity in leadership.
Political analysts note that these early donor movements could significantly influence the party’s direction heading into the next presidential cycle, though much could change before the 2028 primaries begin in earnest.
