Corey Todd Taylor was born on December 8, 1973, in Des Moines, Iowa, to a single mother, who raised him in Waterloo, Iowa. While growing up as a child, Taylor was introduced to rock music, by his grandmother, who loved Elvis Presley. He found inspiration in the songs, “Teddy Bear,” “In the Ghetto,” and “Suspicious Minds.” He also liked to listen to the English rock band, Black Sabbath, in which he has been known to say that the dilapidated farmhouse, that he, his mother, and sister lived in at one point, was like the cover of a Black Sabbath CD cover. Although he had a strong love and passion for rock music at and early age, by the time he was 15 years old, he was addicted to drugs and had overdosed on cocaine twice. After his near death experience the second time with drugs, he went to live with his grandmother in another part of Iowa, where she helped him buy musical equipment. When Taylor was 18, he left his grandmother’s house, and lived in different places in Iowa. Recently, he admitted on an episode of Viceland’s, The Therapist, that he was sexually assaulted at the age of 10 by his 16 year old friend, but only decided to confess it at the age of 18, because the abuser had threatened to hurt him and his mother. After moving back in with his grandmother at the age of 18, he attempted suicide by using drugs again, but his ex-girlfriend’s mother took him to the hospital where the doctors were able to save him. With him saying that this time in his life was the lowest point in his life, he was able to move on with his life and become a musical success. He first met his father when he was 30 years old, and now has a relationship with him.


Corey Taylor who is also known as, The Boogie Knight, and the, The Grim Chopper, started his music career in 1992. After forming the rock band, Stone Sour, they recorded a demo album in 1993. In 1997, another band, called, Slipknot approached Taylor, in hopes of getting him to join their band. He took a break from Stone Sour, to become the sixth member of Slipknot. Afterwards, they released their self titled debut album, which went to #1 on the Top Heatseekers chart. In 2001, they released their second album, Iowa, which charted at #1 on the UK Albums Chart as well as #3 on the Billboard 200. Taylor went back to perform with his previous band, Stone Sour, and released their debut album in 2002. In 2006, they released their second album, Come What (ever) May, Fours years later, Stone Sour released their third album, Audio Secrecy, which motivated them to release their double album, House of Gold and Bones, with the first part being released in 2012 and the second part in 2013. However, Corey Taylor have not only found true success in music, but also in acting. In 1999, he appeared on the big screen in the video album, Welcome to our Neighborhood. He went on to act in the We Sold our Souls for Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rollerball, in 2001 and 2002. After these films, he was featured in several other acting projects, which include, Get Thrashed, Goar, and Voliminal: Inside the Nine. He was also featured in the horror flick, Bullied as well as appearing on the television series, Doctor Who.
