Barbara Walters is an American Journalist and Television Personality. She was born at Boston, Massachusetts on September 25, 1929. She went to Sarah Lawrence College and graduated with a B.A. in English. Both her parents are Jewish and they are refugees from Russia.
Barbara started off as a writer at Rebook Magazine and a publicist in another concern. She joined NBC’s The Today Show in the year 1961. At first she handled the weather sections and some small assignments there. Around 1974 she was became an official co-host for this program. This was the time when women were not considered capable to present “hard news”. Hence it was a great achievement for Barbara to be promoted from just a “Today Girl” to a co-host.
She next worked with Hugh Downs as a commentator and moderator of Presidential debates on the ABC Newsmagazine 20/20. One of her first assignments as a moderator was for the final debate between candidates Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford contesting the 1976 Presidential Elections.

Walter first married Businessman and a former Navy Lieutenant Robert Henry Katz in 1955. They broke up in the year 1957.
She then married a theatrical producer Lee Guber in 1963 and divorced him in 1976. It is during this marriage that she adopted a child and named her Jacqueline Dena Guber.
She met and married Ceo of Lorimar Television, Merv Adelson in 1981. They divorced soon after but remarried in 1986. This association also did not work and they separated in 1992.
Walters also has dated celebrities like Roy Cohn, Alan Greespan, Fox News head Roger Ailes, Robert Neil Builter and John Warner for a short period of time. She has also penned her autobiography called Audition.
