Ashlee Nicholle Ross, also known by her stage name of, Ashlee Simpson, was born on October 3, 1984, in Waco, Texas, to Tina Ann Simpson and Joseph Truett “Joe” Simpson, a former psychologist and Baptist youth minister. Ashlee Simpson has one older sister, Jessica Simpson, and they both attended Prairie Creek Elementary and North Junior High, in Richardson, Texas. Simpson began studying classical ballet at just three years old and enrolled in the School of American Ballet in New York City, when she was 11, which made her the youngest person to be enrolled in that school. In 1999, Simpson and her family relocated to Los, Angeles, California, so that her sister, Jessica could continue to pursue a singing career. However, while Jessica pursued her career as an entertainer, Ashlee Simpson, began appearing in commercials, with her father being her agent. After her sister, Jessica, released her debut album, Sweet Kisses, Ashlee appeared as one of her backup dancers on tour.

Her first television appearance was on the television series, Malcolm in the Middle, which led to a two season appearance in a recurring role, in the television series, 7th Heaven. Months later after her appearance on the 7th Heaven, she was cast alongside, actress Rachel McAdams, in the film, The Hot Chick. In 2003, Simpson released her single, Just Let Me Cry, for the film, Freaky Friday, which made her famous and earned her a record deal with Geffen Records. The next year, Simpson released her debut studio album, Autobiography, which was featured on the Billboard 200. Later that year, in 2004, she went on to star in her own reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show. In 2005, she went on her first North American tour and she also released her second studio album, I Am Me, in 2005. She continued to be busy in 2005 with her passion in performing, by being cast as Roxie Hart, in the broadway production, Chicago.
