Adam is the son of Penny Devine and Dennis. He finished his schooling from Millard South High School, located in Omaha. He graduated from this school in the year 2002. Later he went to Orange Coast College. Adam went there along with a fellow cast member named Blake Anderson. He then moved to L.A (Los Angeles) where he started working as an actor and stand up comedian.
Devine was just 11 years old, he was taking his bike across the streets at Omaha, Nebraska. It was the year of 1995 when he waited for three truck cements to pass. The fourth truck which was previously blocked by opposing traffic struck him hard. Adam went under the first two wheels of the giant 42 ton truck and slid away 500 feet. He was knocked completely unconscious and went into an acute shock. He also slipped into coma. Adam was taken to Intensive care, where he woke up after two weeks. He had broken all his bones of both legs and suffered a major collapse in his lung function. He had developed multiple infections and was in oblivion whether he would walk again.
He had 26 surgeries in the next few years of his life since the incident and spent most of his time on wheel chair. Due to the severity of his injuries, Devine was at a very high risk of having his legs cut-off coupled with multiple organ failure. Today he has full mobility, but the scars from the wounds are still extensively there. He described the incident as a very tough one and having to almost relearn walking again as they were totally mangled. He included that the incident made him realize about his strengths and weaknesses at the very best and that anything is possible in life. He used to work in a local radio station to pass the time and copied celebrities to amuse self and others.
When he returned for his school, Devine experienced a lot of bullying from his classmates but he fought it off by joking about it as a way to ward off attention from his wounds. He managed to come out of it quite well in time. All of these experiences helped him make a great comedian and bringing other people together. Later, it was found out that the reason he did not get killed was because the bike was on the right side and hence took a full force of the huge truck.
